StevesReeds are a professional style reed, requiring more air support and a stronger embouchure designed for advanced and professional players. The unique metal wraps adds a noticable increase in volumen and presence for solo work and large hall performances. The metal may darken over time but does not change tone quality of the reed. We offer three styles - all of which use a straight Mechler style reed for better high range with a dark but focused tone:
SR1 - narrower reed, shaper tip starts at 15.18mm - good for overall
playing. Nicely centered throughout the range
SR2 - shaper tip slightly wider at 15.7mm with a "beefier" sound -
better lows without loss of high range. Great when you need
that bigger sound
SR3 - widest tip at 16.2mm, good for full bass in the tone and a lot
of power. Requires a bit more air but worth it for the sound! (these reeds will also work nicely with the French Basson)
